Inserting Video Into A Blog

Using videos as part of a blog post is a very 21st century thing to do!  Our world today is so incredibly visual.  Many people...I would dare say MOST PEOPLE, will not read something if there isn't a visual associated with the text. While still photographs and pictures are always a nice touch, the niclusion of a video brings the message to a entirely new level of attractiveness and understanding. Below is a sample video I produced several months ago as I was preparing my fall semester classes in Canvas.  Each professor was encouraged to produce a video for each class they were assigned to teach.  I was a little uncomfortable at first.  After all, most of us don't use videos in our professional work on a regular basis.  But the more I practiced, the better I became. You can do it too.

The Perfect Match: My Dream Job with The Business Incubator

Since it looks like I'll be working for the rest of my life, I think I might as well work for a company where I can use my best skills, talents and abilities...and enjoy doing it!  For me, that company is The Business Incubator located in Boston, Massachusetts on South Elm Street.  I've been watching this company since I was a sophomore in high school, and I think what they do is really cool. The Business Incubator is a work and maker space for entrepreneurs.  It opened its doors in 1990 with a mission to provide the support that early entrepreneurs need to start their businesses.  The company is located in a huge warehouse structure that has been transformed into 'artsy' office spaces combined with open-air concepts for community brainstorming.  Today, they have 75 employees including an awesome marketing department; which is where this story intersects with me

In Marketing, Value is Visual

Principles of Marketing Students: By now, you should know that marketing is all about creating value .  If you look at the AMA definition of marketing, you'll see the word VALUE...a word that I believe is the most important word in the definition! Some companies spend millions of dollars trying to create "offerings that have value", only to find that their target markets DON'T SEE VALUE in the products at all.  See, that's the thing about value...value is in the eyes of the customer.  If the customer doesn't see any benefits in the product, then that product is a marketplace failure. For Blog Assignment #2, I'd like for you to write about a product that you have used, that you think has really great value.  And, since we are living in such a visual world these days, please post a picture with your blog posting.  It can be a picture of the product, a store that sells the product, an advertisement for the product, etc.   So here's the assignment: 1...

THE BLOGGING PROJECT (MAR 3023-B-WE)

MONDAY - September 7, 2020  Principles of Marketing Students: One of your course requirements in the Principles of Marketing course is to establish and maintain a blog during the 16-week semester.   I believe blogging has two benefits for you.  First, blogging can be an enjoyable way to sharpen your writing skills. Second, blogging about various marketing principles can help you crystallize your thoughts and deepen your critical thinking. Here's the way the blogging project will work: 1. For each blog posting, I will assign a topic for you to blog about. 2. You will be given a specific time frame to write and post your reponse to the topic. 3. I will visit your blog site and assess your reponse after which I will assign points and a grade. (The blogging rubric will be posted on Canvas.) As it looks right now, you will have 5-6 blog assignments between now and the end of the semester.  But first, you will need to set up your blog site. I'm asking all of you to p...
